Tsunamis. Earthquakes. War. How does humanitarian aid get through when the roads are gone? Humanitarian Aviation. Inspiring teens now to become mission/humanitarian pilots later.

Human Interest Story "Teens Today - Humanitarian Pilots Tomorrow"

14-year-old Lynlea approached me with her grandfather as registration day began for another Mission Aviation Adventure Camp this summer. Her arm was in a sling. The grandfather said, "She fell off a horse yesterday, and her doctor's visit is later today, but we came early to see if she could still attend aviation camp with a broken collar bone". Lynlea has wanted to become a humanitarian pilot since she was seven years old, and this was her big chance to spend a week at a youth camp that would provide the most exhilarating experience of her life so far, and she didn't want to miss out. I asked if she could extend her arm and bear any force on it because she would need two hands to fly the Cessna airplane each day that week. "Yes, and it doesn't even really hurt", she said.

The doctor later said she could attend the aviation camp, and so did I. This is the high level of excitement and motivation we see in our teenaged campers each summer who really want to make a difference in our world. She was introduced to actual hands-on flying that week, and learned the basics of aerodynamics, the aviation system, and watched many video stories from around the globe of people already doing this kind of work.
