Volunteer medical professionals have saved lives, placed over $1.2 billion in humanitarian aid worldwide and brought hope to people affected by disaster, conflict and poverty.

Gina knows what it's like to experience pain. For weeks, she endured the throbbing of an abscessed tooth because her parents could not afford healthcare insurance. Her school counselor told us her story:

"After your clinic came to our school, I asked Gina about her experience. She said her dentist took two of her teeth out and put one back in. I was amused at first and thought Gina was mistaken. I then learned that Gina's baby tooth was so infected and puss-filled that her permanent tooth came out, too.

Gina didn't know what a miracle it was that her dentist stitched her permanent tooth back in - but I did. She had another miracle to consider - her tooth didn't hurt anymore. She said it was hard to sleep sometimes, but not now.

Not all the kids had conditions that were this unusual, but in essence their stories are the same: pain before, no pain after.
